EXPERIENCE

CRISTO REDENTOR AND CARACOLES TUNNELS

Client: Ministerio de Obras Públicas (MOP).

Location: Los Andes, Región Metropolitana.

Project Description

Both tunnels, located in the border between Chile and Argentina, were built during the seventies to expedite the transit through Los Libertadores border crossing. Cristo Redentor tunnel—the only one currently operating—began its activities in 1980 with the methodology and technology corresponding to its time.

Our Participation

The assignment—called by the Public Works Ministry (MOP)—establishes the request to design and build connecting tunnels between both works to facilitate the evacuation and entrance of emergency vehicles to the tunnels in case of accidents. Considering this background, we are currently preparing the gallery designs for the tunnel connection.
